Within the Commandery Ceremonial, candidates receive three distinct Orders of Christian knighthood — each a solemn rite steeped in Scripture, symbol, and the ancient traditions of the Crusades. Together they form the complete chivalric journey of a Knights Templar.
Rooted in the history of Zerubbabel and the return of the Jewish exiles from Babylon, this Order teaches the power of truth above all earthly things. The candidate journeys through the Persian Court, armed with the motto Truth is Mighty and Will Prevail, to secure safe passage for those who would rebuild the Temple.
The colors of this Order — red and green — symbolize valor and the hope of restoration. The candidate is invested as a Knight of the Order of the Red Cross, prepared for the greater trials ahead.
The Order of Malta, also known as the Mediterranean Pass, carries the candidate through the traditions of the Hospitallers — those knights who, from their stronghold on the island of Malta, defied the Ottoman Empire and safeguarded Christian pilgrims to the Holy Land.
This Order centers on the seven cardinal and theological virtues, the passage through the Mediterranean, and the fraternal obligation of care for the sick and needy. The Maltese cross — its eight points representing the Beatitudes — is the hallmark of this Order.
The sublime climax of the Commandery Ceremonial, the Order of the Temple traces its lineage directly to the original Knights Templar — those warrior-monks who guarded the pilgrims of Christendom in the Holy Land from 1119 forward. This Order is the most solemn and sacred conferred in the Commandery.
In this Order, the candidate passes through the Tenebre — a symbolic death and resurrection — and takes upon himself the full vows of Christian chivalry: fidelity to God, charity toward all, and valor in defense of the faith. He receives the white mantle and red cross of the Temple.
